General News 4 PET TRADE WORLD DECEMBER 2009www. pettradeworld. com Sale of Acorn Pet Centres secures 153 jobs Acorn Pet Centres, the pet food retail chain which went into administration on 2nd September, has been sold in a deal that will secure 153 jobs in 24 stores throughout Scotland. The deal, which is for an undisclosed sum, will see Acorn Pet Centres continue to be run by Douglas Mutter, the former Managing Director. Administrators Tenon Recovery said there had been a great deal of interest in the company, with 40 enquiries and a number of strong bids. Joint administrator Tom MacLennan, Head of Tenon Recovery in Scotland, commented: " We are delighted to have secured the sale of Acorn Pet Centres and that 153 jobs will be saved as a result of the deal. The company was in administration for just 10 weeks, and achieving a sale in a diffi cult market is an excellent result. My team and I would like to wish the new owners every success with their plans for developing the business, and to thank the staff, customers and suppliers who continued to support the company throughout." Douglas Mutter added: " In 25 years we built Acorn Pet Centres into one of the UK's leading pet retail chains. We are therefore delighted to have acquired the business, and have exciting plans to develop the company, including hopefully recruiting additional staff in due course as we grow the business." ¦ Customer feedback spurs improvements to HiLife ' 60%' cat food range Research among regular purchasers has prompted a series of improvements to Town & Country Petfoods' HiLife ' 60%' cat food pouch range. The rebooking requests refl ect strong, continued support from members of the key industry trade associations. More than 60 per cent of association members that exhibited at Glee 2009 have already submitted their rebooking applications for Glee 2010.
