That's because I've just spent two days on the Pet Trade World stand at GLEE. My tan from my recent week in Lanzarote faded at 7: 15 on Saturday evening. I know this for sure because it was the exact moment I realised that I'd have to be up at 5: 30 on the Sunday morning - I time I only normally see as I stagger home from a night out! Despite this - and having to be up at 5: 30 again on the Monday - I actually enjoyed the show and was pleased to meet so many people over the time that I was there. There really are some very clever people in the pet trade who come up with fantastic ideas for products. You can read much more about the show and see some of those new products that came out of it on pages 28 to 33. The features this month are centred more around our little feathered friends and what we should be feeding them. Feeding caged birds is on pages 37 to 39 and wild birds on pages 33 to 36. We also take a look at what people should be doing to prepare their ponds for winter on pages 42 to 44 and what retailers can stock in order to help. While I was on holiday, Gizzy cat spent a week with my parents where I'm thrilled to report she charmed them completely and was described as a ' joy' to have. I, on the other hand, was like a mother separated from her child for the fi rst time and was on the phone to my Mum every night..... when I was then able to yell down the phone to the cat as well. Not that she was bothered in the slightest because she was far too busy exploring her new territory and being spoilt rotten by her ' grand parents'. On a fi nal note, Naidre my Publisher, swears she didn't miss me at all and maintains that she got a lot more work done as the offi ce was much quieter. I don't believe her for one minute - and nor should you! PET TRADE WORLD OCTOBER 2009 3 Pet Trade W rld Claire Claire Barks Editor
