Funds raised from the sales of 15kg and 2.5kg sacks of the Supadog Greyhound & Lurcher range of food were donated to the Tia Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue Centre, in West Yorkshire, helping to provide support for dogs that have often been poorly mistreated. " We are a company of pet lovers and owners, passionate about furry pets and committed to making their lives better," says Naomi Chatterley, Direct Marketing Manager for Burgess Pet Care. " We are proud to support the work of the Tia Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue Centre, making a contribution through our Forever Promise and ultimately helping to make a real diff erence. " Greyhounds and Lurchers are beautiful gentle dogs but many have sadly started life on the wrong paw being used for racing or hunting. When they are no longer of use, they are often left unwanted, abandoned or killed. That's why it is vitally important to support the invaluable work of rescue centres to make sure the dogs go to caring homes." This comes at a time when there is much talk in the industry regarding the ongoing improvement in welfare for racing dogs. Continues Chatterley: " We are aware that DEFRA has released a consultation paper on the welfare of racing greyhounds and that Welfare Campaigners are still making the case to the government and the racing industry for better care of greyhounds, especially when they are retired. " In the meantime we at Burgess will do what we can to support these lovely yet vulnerable dogs by promoting the valuable work of the rescue centres through our Forever Promise Greyhound and Lurcher Fund." Debra Rothery from Tia Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue said: " As an independent not- for- profi t organisation, we need companies like Burgess Pet Care to help provide support and a new start in life for dogs that have often been mistreated, traumatised, starved or neglected. We are absolutely delighted with the funds presented to us. The Forever Promise makes a big diff erence as it helps pay for food, vet bills, heating and anything needed to look after the dogs until we can fi nd new homes for them." ¦ Tia Greyhound & Lurchers Rescue Autumn Feeder Giveaway CJ Wildlife are proud to launch their eagerly awaited Trade Catalogue for 2009/ 10.
